On January 6, 2026, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD) and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) launched the Beta Version of the new Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Integrated Standardisation portal. BIS Educational Literature: Engaging comic books in print and 2D formats have been developed to raise awareness about quality and safety among children, accessible for free on Rashtriya e-Pustakalay.
BIS-SAKSHAM: This recognition scheme acknowledges knowledge, skills, and high-impact merit across BIS.
During the event, Amandeep Singh, Deputy General Manager of POWERGRID, received the prestigious 1906 IEC Award for his contributions to the International Electrotechnical Commission. The signing of MoUs with premier institutions aims to integrate Indian standards into academic curricula and enhance research and development.
In 2025, BIS developed over 600 new standards, expanding its total to 23,293. Additionally, product certification licenses under the Fast-Track Certification Scheme rose from 758 to 1,288, granting nearly 9,700 new licenses within 30 days.
Digital transformation efforts include the Manak Online Portal and streamlined licensing procedures to enhance accessibility to standards.
