The Union Home Minister is set to virtually inaugurate the National IED Data Management System (NIDMS) on Friday at the garrison in Manesar, near Gurugram. This launch signifies a pivotal advancement in strengthening India’s counter-terrorism and forensic response framework through technology-driven intelligence sharing.
NIDMS is a secure, national-level digital platform designed for the systematic storage, collation, and dissemination of improvised explosive device (IED)-related data. Developed by the National Bomb Data Centre under the National Security Guard (NSG), this platform will support post-blast investigations and provide advanced analytics.
The primary aim of NIDMS is to foster a common, data-driven understanding of IED incidents across state police forces, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and central agencies.
The platform is anticipated to enhance coordination among various security stakeholders by providing a centralized repository of IED incidents, technical details, and emerging trends. By enabling quicker access to verified data, NIDMS is likely to improve preparedness, standardize investigative practices, and strengthen response capabilities against terror and insurgency-related threats.
During the inauguration ceremony, the Home Minister will address attendees virtually. A short film showcasing the functioning and operational benefits of NIDMS will also be screened. Senior NSG officials and representatives from various security agencies are expected to participate, underscoring the platform's national relevance.
Established in 1984, the NSG is India’s premier counter-terrorism force, renowned for its highly trained 'Black Cat' commandos. Apart from counter-terror and counter-hijack operations, the force also provides security cover to select high-risk individuals. The launch of NIDMS reflects NSG’s expanding role in integrating technology with national security operations.
