The Kerala High Court has instructed the State government and the State Wetland Authority Kerala (SWAK) to establish an Ashtamudi Wetland Management Unit dedicated to the conservation of the wetland, to be formed within two months following the issuance of the official notification.

Statement 1 is not correct: Ashtamudi Lake is not the largest freshwater lake in Kerala. That title belongs to Vembanad Lake, which is also the longest lake in India. Ashtamudi is the second-largest and deepest estuarine lake in Kerala.

Statement 2 is correct: The lake is fed by the Kallada River, which originates in the Western Ghats and flows into the Ashtamudi wetland.

Statement 3 is correct: Ashtamudi Lake drains into the Arabian Sea through the Neendakara estuary, located near Kollam.
